Life Abroad

Privacy policy

Your settings, your choices, and the services that help Life Abroad work.

Effective date: 3 October 2026

App operator: Alchemy Intelligence LLC

Privacy contact: hello@alchemy-intel.com

Life Abroad helps you view weather, convert currencies, and compare local times. It does not require an account. The app does not operate a Life Abroad server that receives your saved settings, amounts, or timezone labels. Some features connect directly to external services, as described below.

Information saved on your device

Life Abroad stores your selected weather location, currency choices and order, base currency, temperature unit, appearance preference, saved timezones, and labels you enter in the app's local storage. The selected weather location includes its name, region, country, timezone, and latitude and longitude.

The app also keeps exchange-rate tables and weather forecasts with their update times so previously loaded information remains available offline. Weather caches include the coordinates used for the forecast. Earlier weather-location caches can remain on the device after you choose another location.

Currency amounts and calculations are handled on your device; the amount you type is not sent to rate providers or saved as conversion history. Date and time comparison inputs are temporary. Timezone labels are entered by you; the app does not access your Contacts. There is no app account or app-provided cloud synchronization.

City search and optional device location

When you search for a city, the search text and the place you select are sent to Apple's Maps services to find matching places, coordinates, and a timezone. Searching manually does not require giving Life Abroad permission to access your device location.

If you tap Use my location, the app requests iOS permission for a one-time location lookup and sends the resulting coordinates to Apple's geocoding service to identify a city. The app requests approximately kilometre-level accuracy, but it does not round the coordinates returned by iOS; the result may be more precise depending on your settings and the available location data.

You confirm the city before it is saved. If confirmed, the returned coordinates are saved with that selection and used for subsequent forecasts. Life Abroad does not continuously follow your movements, request background location access, or automatically change the saved city as you travel. Each new device-location lookup requires another tap.

Apple's handling of its location and mapping services is described in Location Services & Privacy and Apple Maps & Privacy.

Weather requests

The app sends the selected location's latitude and longitude to Apple WeatherKit to retrieve current conditions and forecasts. This happens when weather needs refreshing, including when you select a location, return to the app with stale weather, or tap Refresh. Denying device-location permission does not prevent forecasts for a manually selected city or for coordinates already saved.

Apple states that WeatherKit uses location to provide forecasts without associating it with personally identifiable information or tracking it across requests. See Apple's WeatherKit privacy description. The app also loads Apple's weather attribution image and can open Apple's data-sources page when you tap its link.

Currency-rate requests

The app requests public USD-based rate tables directly from Coinbase and Frankfurter. Both services are contacted during a rate refresh; Frankfurter fills missing rates and provides a fallback. Requests occur at launch, when you tap Refresh, and on returning to the app when another check is due.

These requests do not contain the amounts you enter, your saved currency list, timezone labels, or selected weather coordinates. Like other internet services, the providers receive network connection information, including the IP address used for the request and any standard request metadata added by the device's networking software.

Coinbase describes its general handling of technical information and retention in its Privacy Policy. Frankfurter states that its API does not retain personal-data, IP-address, or request-URL logs and that its hosting protection provides aggregate traffic statistics; see its privacy FAQ.

Advertising, analytics, and external links

Life Abroad does not include advertising, an advertising identifier integration, or an app-installed behavioral analytics or crash-reporting service. Apple may provide system diagnostics and App Store services according to your device settings and Apple's policies.

Opening an external link takes you to a service governed by its own privacy policy. No currency amounts or saved labels are appended to the app's Apple Weather data-sources link.

This website and support emails

This website is hosted by Cloudflare. When you visit, Cloudflare processes network and request information, including your IP address, to deliver and protect the website. Its Privacy Policy explains its practices. We do not add advertising or visitor-analytics scripts to these pages.

If you email support, we receive your email address, the contents of your message and any attachments. We use this information to respond to your request and investigate problems you report. Please avoid sending information you do not want to share. You can contact hello@alchemy-intel.com with questions about your correspondence.

Your choices and deletion

You can search for a city without using device location and change the selected city in the app. You can change or remove saved timezone entries and labels, subject to the app keeping at least one timezone, and edit your other settings.

You can revoke Life Abroad's location permission in iOS Settings. This stops future access to your device location; it does not erase the saved city or its coordinates. Choose a different city to change the coordinates used for future forecasts.

Saved settings and cached information remain locally until replaced or removed. There is currently no in-app command to erase all caches. Deleting the app from the device removes its local app data; offloading the app retains that data. The app's storage library requests exclusion of these settings and caches from iCloud backup by default. Any copies managed outside the app are subject to the controls of the relevant device or backup service.

The app cannot erase requests already processed by Apple or a currency provider. Refer to those providers' policies for their retention and privacy controls. Contact hello@alchemy-intel.com with questions about Life Abroad's privacy practices.

Changes

If the app's data practices change, this policy will be updated with a new effective date.
